Understanding Your
C-Reactive Protein Level

Will I Fall Prey To Heart Disease?
Atherosclerosis
is a
disease affecting
arterial
blood vessels. It is a chronic inflammatory response in the walls
of arteries, in large part due to the deposition of
lipoproteins (plasma proteins that carry cholesterol and
triglycerides). It is commonly referred to as a "hardening" or
"furring" of the arteries. It is caused by the formation of multiple
plaques
within the
arteries.
Atherosclerosis is the principal cause of heart attacks and strokes.
People in the past usually attributed atherosclerosis to lipid
disorder, and they would concentrate on methods to lower the LDL
cholesterol levels and to reduce the amount of atherosclerosis.
However, in the past 30-40 years, studies have shown that half of all
heart attacks and strokes occur among people with normal cholesterol
levels.
Researches have established that inflammation plays a very important
role in atherogenesis. The chronic inflammatory response bring forth by
atherosclerotic plaque formation may build up the
C-Reactive Protein (CRP) levels in blood. The CRP which is used as an
inflammatory marker may be a valuable predictor of future cardiovascular
disease risk.
High Sensitivity C-Reactive Protein Test
(hs-CRP test)
Our advanced
high sensitivity C-Reactive Protein test (hs-CRP test) is a risk
assessment in the primary prevention of cardiovascular disease and
peripheral vascular disease. It can add to the predicative value of
other markers used to assess your cardiac status, such as cholesterol (HDL-C,
LDL-C), blood pressure, and triglyceride etc.
It is a quick
and painless blood test that merely requires a finger prick to obtain a
few drops of blood and to be absorbed onto a proprietary gauze strip.
The strip is
allowed to dry at room temperature and you can simply return the dried
strip with the completed order form to HK BioTek office. This sample
will be sent to our Laboratories in United States for analysis through
the state of the art
Sandwich/Capture ELISA procedures
You will
receive your personal CRP Report within 14 days. The report will
indicate your CRP level and define your future coronary risk as low
(result <1.0μg/ml), intermediate (result within 1.0μg/ml -3.6μg/ml) or
high (result >3.6μg/ml). The result may be used as a discretionary tool
in the evaluation of those at risk for cardiovascular disease to
initiate and guide preventive measures or more aggressive therapy
against heart attack.
Our test
analyzes with high sensitivity (low detection limit 0.1172μg/ml) that
allows precise detection of CRP level, even though, the difference
between normal and elevated inflammation level is so small.
ELISA hs-CRP
test gives you the assurance of quality and reliability as all the tests
are completed by our Laboratories in the United States and each
patient’s test is conducted twice to ensure accuracy and reliability.
