Risk of chronic exposure to plastic baby bottles

2012-04-07

National Cheng Kung University team and Nordic scholars have confirmed that plastic baby bottles will directly cause infants and young children suffering from allergies, asthma, eczema, because after repeated cleaning and scrub in high temperature, the plastic is easily leak and lead to allergies. The longer the use of, the higher risk of developing allergies. If you worry that the glass bottle is easy to fall apart and insist to use a plastic one, pediatrician recommended to choose more high-temperature resistant materials such as PES and PPSU for baby bottles, and then sterilize by using ultraviolet light. This eliminates the risk of exposing children under an environment which is full of allergens.

The pediatrician also mentioned that “If long-term stimulus is likely, it will increase the risk of atopic dermatitis, allergic rhinitis and asthma.”

Doctors recommend it’s best to use less of plastic baby bottles, because PP and PE material baby bottle can only heat up to 100-120 degrees, while PES and PPSU can withstand 180 degrees high temperature. If it’s a must to use plastic baby bottle but worry that heating will release plastic, you should switch to UV disinfection, so as to avoid cause the child to suffer more harm than good.
