Excessive Toxin Exposure - A Prevalent Problem

  • We are exposed to a cocktail of chemicals sourcing from the vestiges of eating, drinking, breathing and touching the synthetics products of the industrial world.
  • These toxins have the potential to affect human health in a most insidious way from low level, long term exposure through our diet, inhalation and using personal care products.
  • Researches have pointed out that exposure to environmental pollutants links to the development of serious disease-like cancers and errors of metabolism.

Where Do Toxins Come From?

Types of Sources Examples
Environmental sources Active/Passive cigarette-smoke, Automotive emission
Occupational sources Solvents for rubber, Synthetic resins, Gums, Inks, Paints
Household products Household cleaning products
Cosmetics & Personal-care products Nail polish, fragrances, Deodorants, Hair gel, Hair spray, Hand and Body lotions, Soaps, Shampoo
Plastic products Children’s toys, Stationery, Food packaging and containers, Medical tubing, Blood bags
Pharmaceuticals Some time-release pills, such as sleeping pills

Health Hazards of Excessive Toxin Exposure

Chronic exposure to a number of occupational and environmental pollutants is a growing concern in today’s industrialized world: their effects on human health are profound. Many have been linked to a variety of pathologies including neuropsychological and neuropsychological dysfunction, leukopenia, dyspnea, anemia, and certain cancers, to name a few.

Innovative Technique for Greatest Accuracy & Sensitivity

Our Environmental Pollutants Biomonitor assesses the extent of toxicity in your body towards seven common toxic chemicals from your urine.

State-of-the-Art Testing Technology

Sample will be sent to our laboratories in the United States for analysis employing the advance approach: Liquid Chromatography/ Triple Quadrupole Mass Spectrometry platform (LC/QQQ). This method measures chemical markers even at low level for optimum test results.

Technology Competency

Convenient Sampling and Interpretative Support for Actionable Follow up

Air-dried Strips  – for Higher Stability

A first morning urine sample on our signature Air-dried Strips is required to profile the toxicity within.

Liquid urine has poor stability, as degraded after sampling, and the freeze-thaw cycle between transportation may discourage the quality of urine sample. The Air-dried Strips ensure sample stability in storage and transportation even in room temperature condition up to 55 days.

Our Air-dried Strips was validated to provide almost 100% of the liquid urine value (r² of 0.997), with great stability and recovery of the analytes.

Comprehensive Interpretative Support

You will receive Environmental Pollutants Report and a comprehensive Interpretative Report in 2-3 weeks. Our Interpretative Report is a powerful guide, where you can find a list of sources for each chemical tested, with a customized detoxification protocol, nutritional support program and possible follow-up treatments for you to achieve the optimal health.

Useful Data for My Practice

Functional Medicine Practitioner, Central, Hong Kong
“The test quantifies exposure to aromatic solvents, parabens and phthalates. Many of my patients found it very convenient to collect the urine sample with the sampling strips from HK BioTek. The result provides the most useful data for detox program for my patients.”

Examine the Efficiency of Bodily Functions

Nutritionist M, Hong Kong
“The report comes with a comprehensive review of the data, potential sources of exposure and detailed detoxification protocols for each of the pollutants and for any metabolic blockades found. It is a very good tool for practitioners to know more about our patients from the biochemical perspective.”

Reveal How My Body is ‘Polluted’

Ms Yang, Shenzhen, China
“I did this test with the Urinary Metabolic Profile. I spend most of my time in China and I do have concerns how my body is ‘polluted’ by the environment, and want to do something before it is too late. Plus I am struggling with my weight and digestive system. So I want to see if there is any underlying cause for these problem. After the test and followed the instruction on the report to detox and supplement what is lacking, the symptoms improve a lot.”

An Absolute Must for Better Body

Dr. Mark Schauss, USA
“Environmental pollutants testing is an absolute must if you want to achieve the best body composition and lose fat. This first morning urine test, using dry strip technology is easy to do.”

Why Environmental Pollutions Test?

1. What are the strengths of our EPP test?

  • 7 keys environment toxins tested
  • Easy and convenient sampling for higher stability
  • Technology from USA
  • Interpretative guide goes along with the report

2. How accurate is urine as an indicator of my body status of toxicity ?

Exposure occurs when a chemical comes in contact with a person. A portion of that exposure dose is absorbed into the body, where it’s distributed, metabolized and excreted in the urine. Environmental exposures to these toxins (parent compounds) result in increases in body burden that are reflected in urine, which is an accurate biomarker of exposure. Urine analysis is also a standard method of measuring chemical exposure as it is the medium which carries the various waste products that are filtered out of the blood system. Benzene exposure for example, is measured through urinary trans-muconic acid.

3. Could we know more about the specificity and accuracy of the test ?

Our test undergoes stringent biochemical process detect metabolic intermediates in your urine, which interprets your body’s efficiency in dealing with the toxins. Our test gives you the assurance of quality and reliability as all tests are completed under US BioTek Laboratories’ facilities. Our laboratory is an independent clinical laboratory approved by CLIA (US Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments) accredited by COLA (US Commission on Office Laboratory Accreditation). The laboratory is also licensed by the State of Washington for performing testing worldwide.

4. How can I ensure the urine collected in the strips will not be contaminated during transit ?

You should follow the instruction and place the sampled strip into the kit as provided, seal it tightly and keep it at room temperature. In additional, our revolutionary Air-dried Strips produces more accurate test results. Comparison studies conducted between urine sample collected using Air-dried Strips and those in liquid form showed higher stability.

1. How do I go about EPP testing?

You could:

  • Make an appointment for blood sampling at our office or our sampling outlets all over Hong Kong;
  • Purchase the test kit from us, collect the blood sample on your own, then return it back to us;
  • Do it at the clinic of your family doctor or doctors carrying our tests

Our Office Hour: 10am-7pm (Mon-Fri); 9am-5pm (Sat); Closed on Sun & Public Holidays

It will take 10 – 20 days to get your report ready.

2. Do I need a doctor’s prescription to have the EPP test done?

Any individual can order any tests as his or her health information but not for diagnosis. A doctor’s prescription is not required.

1. What should I avoid before sampling ?

Foods contain benzoic acid (benzoate) and sorbic acid (sorbate) preservatives should be avoided for 48 hours prior to urine collection. Foods or products contain such preservatives are, for example, canned foods, flavored drinks, baked goods, processed cheese slices and spreads, salad dressings and mayonnaise. In addition, you should also avoid excess fluid intake after your evening meal.

2. Can my kids take this EPP test ?

Yes, this EPP test is suitable for adults and children above 2 years of age. However, you should note that our test does not assess for neonatal inborn errors of metabolism.

1. What information will the EPP report provide?

The report will clearly show, in bar chat format, your toxic levels towards the 7 groups of toxic chemicals, namely, Xylene, Toluene, Benzene, Trimethylbenzene, Styrene, Phthalates and Parabens. You will also receive a comprehensive Interpretive Report, which included details on the possible sources of chemical exposure, a customized detoxification protocol and nutritional support program to optimize your chances of achieving balance and overall health.
